Thai Nyaw Kumpee , t. KumPee a.Na kae , Nakhon Phanom.

" Nyaw " ( Nyo , Yor )The Tai Nyaw or Tai Yor or Thai Nyaw people are one among many ethnic groups live in Nakhon Phanom province ( Chang Wat ). It's been said that over hundred year ago they migrated from Muang Xaignabouri , northern part of Lao PDR. Nowadays they live mainly in AmphoeTha Uthen , Amphoe Si Songkhram , Amphoe Na wha and Tambol Kumpee Amphoe Na kae .
Thai Nyaw people in Tambol Kumpee are primarily Buddhist , but however, most of them have mixed elements of Buddhism with their traditional animistic beliefs. For this reason , the people often seek help through supernatural spirits and objects. They believe that the spirits , known as Phi , must be appeased with sacrifices and offerings . Ancestor worship is also common. The ancestral spirits are thought to cause illnesses if they are not appeased. So the main event here is " The Yao Ritual Dance" on the village ancestor worship day, which held 2 days on the 13th and 14th day of waxing moon of the third lunar month to please the spirits.
The Yao Ritual Dance will starting at noon on day one ,while the headman and the people are attend around " the spirit house " at the village spirit court yard. The Yao Ritual Dance are performed by a group of senior women all wrap a red clothes around the head , this is what we call " Moh Yao " or the traditional spirit doctor. Moh Yao start dancing round the spirit house till evening of the next day, and then it's time to please the spirit by offering  food, sweet and liqueur , after that it's time to watering the spirit before shipping the spirit home in the end of the ceremony.
